What to do in Manosque

In 2 days
1 week
As a family
Book your room now at the Campanile hotel in Manosque! Our hotel is ideally located for visiting this pretty town in the department of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. Begin your two-day stay with a visit to the Romanesque-style Notre-Dame de Romigier church on the Place de l’Hôtel de Ville. Next, stroll over to the old town and admire the Saunerie and Soubeyran gates, remnants of the fortifications that once surrounded the city. The narrow streets in this neighborhood, lined with tall houses, are characteristic of an old town in Provence. Last, enjoy the exceptional panorama from the Roman chapel Saint-Pancrace on Toutes Aures hill.
During your one-week stay at the Campanile hotel in Manosque, begin by visiting the historic center, then Saint-Sauveur Church and Couvent de la Présentation, both of which are listed in as historic monuments. Discover the ruins of the Château du Mount d'Or and admire modern buildings, like city hall, Hôtel d’Herbès and Château de Gassaud. And don’t miss Manosque native Jean Giono’s house. Take advantage of your stay in the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur region to take a walk through the nearby hills or a hike along the GR4 trail.
Staying at the Campanile hotel as a family will let you enjoy its natural heritage and typical Provençal ambiance. The city’s historic ruins and ancient streets will serve as an exploratory playground for both children and adults. The Manosque hills also offer a variety of family-friendly walks. Check out the leisure center, located at Lac des Vannades, and also the covered pool. While staying in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence region, you can visit the L’Occitane factory museum and also nearby villages, like Forcalquier, Banon and Gréoux-les-Bains.

Manosque’s culinary specialties

Enjoy Provençal cuisine at our Manosque hotel-restaurant or in one of the restaurants in the city. Discover Alpes de Haute Durance apples, with their firm and sweet flesh, and Banon, a creamy goat’s milk cheese encased in dried chestnut leaves. The region is also famous for its olives and, of course, its olive oil, which is used liberally in the Provençal kitchen for cooking and for seasoning. Last, don’t miss trying fougasse, a type of bread that can be plain or garnished with bacon, olives, tomatoes and rosemary. It’s sweet version is called fougassette.

Interesting facts about Manosque

The great writer Jean Giono was born in Manosque on March 30, 1895. His work was much inspired by Provence and rural life. Despite the importance of travel in his texts, Jean Giono seldom left his native Provence. After having lived in the city center, he moved high above town in a house named Le Paraïs. He also made a few trips to stay to neighboring Trièves. The town’s mountainous setting is found in his novels. It’s another great reason for serious readers to visit Manosque with Campanile hotels!
