During your first day in Caen, follow the steps of William the Conqueror by discovering the castle built by the Norman around 1060. Follow on with a visit to the Peace Memorial and the "Landing and Battle of Normandy" and "World War, Total War" themed routes. The next day can be spent exploring nearby Disembarkation beaches (especially Gold, Juno and Sword beaches).
Make the most of it by spending a little more time in Caen to discover the acclaimed Post and Telecommunications Museum or the Normandy Museum, in Caen Castle, which traces the region's exciting history. To finish, return to the beaches of the Normandy Landing and, this time, allow yourself a day’s excursion to the west of Normandy. Discover Omaha Beach (around forty minutes by car from our 3-star Campanile hotels in Caen), the port of Arromanches, the pointe du Hoc, Sainte Mère l'Eglise, Bayeux, and the American and Canadian cemeteries.
There are many gardens in Caen and the city also has a free admission animal park that will delight children. There are opportunities for cruises, hiking, and a variety of beach activities (sailing, swimming on Normandy beaches) which will be enjoyable for family fun. Additionally, the city hall has set up bike tours to discover the city around three routes: "Garden Caen", "In the steps of William the Conqueror" and "Caen by the water".
