General de Gaulle in Bayeux

Visiting Bayeux is truly a leap into history and it’s the unique opportunity to discover the Bayeux speeches delivered by General de Gaulle in June 1944 and June 1946, following the Liberation. The first speech, on June 14, 1944, was to demonstrate the place France held in the ranks of the winning allies. The second speech took place on June 16, 1946, and constituted the program that would be adopted in the French Constitution of 1958. As the first draft of the Constitution was rejected, de Gaulle was hoping to assert his ideas through this speech.
