Interesting facts about Saint-Germain-en-Laye

It is in Saint-Germain-en-Laye that the very first French rail transport line was built, in 1837, connecting the city to Paris. The purpose of this project? Building a train line from the capital in order to attract the attention of investors and politicians. The inauguration took place in the presence of the royal family, but without King Louis-Philippe, to avoid exposing him to the "risks" of a train trip. Today, the RER, Transilien and bus facilitate the journey from Paris to Saint-Germain-en-Laye, yet another a good reason to visit the city and its region from our Campanile hotels!
