TRAVEL GUIDE

What to do in Argenteuil?

In 2 days
1 week
As a family
Two days are ideal for exploring all the treasures of Argenteuil while staying at our Campanile hotel. On the first day, a stroll is a must to discover the city’s incredible architectural richness and history. Some relatively old sites (the Allée Couverte des Déserts and Abbaye Notre-Dame) are must-sees. On the second day, you can go to the Buttes du Parisis for a “green walk” and also to the sumptuous Parc Naturel Régional du Vexin Français.
In one week, you can deepen your knowledge of the city by visiting the Argenteuil Museum and exploring its surroundings. Close by, Maubuisson Abbey, the Chateau d'Auvers and the Maison du Docteur Gachet offer a dense and varied view of the rich history of Val-d'Oise. Another must-see is a visit to the Sannois Moulin and a stroll through the beautiful Montmorency Forest.
Children will enjoy Argenteuil and the Yuri Gagarin aquatic center. In the vicinity, two sites offers a number of activities to delight families: the Base de Plein Air et de Loisirs de Cergy-Neuville and Adventureland Park, located in the Parc Naturel Régional du Vexin Français. Argenteuil is close to Paris and so it provides easy access to Parc Astérix. Enjoy a stay or stop for lunch athotel-restaurant Campanile Saint Witz

Top 3 gastronomic experiences in Argenteuil

Argenteuil asparagus

Asparagus is so representative of the city of Argenteuil that any dish that includes asparagus is called “Argenteuil”. Examples are “scrambled Argenteuil eggs” (which were also on the Titanic’s menu!) and “Argenteuil stew,” an asparagus purée. The city is now very urbanized, which is why asparagus is grown in the more rural areas of the Vexin Français, but local restaurateurs will always give you a chance to taste it in the springtime.

Nanterre brioche

Take advantage of your stay at hotel-restaurant Campanile d’Argenteuil to discover the Ile-de-France region’s culinary specialties. Among them is the Nanterre brioche that differs from the traditional brioche only in shape, with its two rows of four mouth-watering balls. Enjoy the Nanterre brioche at breakfast or as a snack, with jam or a spread, with sugar pearls on the top or just plain.

Talmouse

The most famous ones were from Saint-Denis, but talmouses are Ile-de-France specialties that aren’t to be missed during your stay in Argenteuil. They’re triangular puff pastry tarts with cheese and bechamel. There are several versions: plain, forestière (with mushrooms), spinach, etc. There’s even a sweet version, with frangipane. The best kind is sweet, eaten at breakfast or for lunch on the go as you visit the capital.

The Argenteuil Festival

Each year, during a large part of June, the city hosts a big festival that includes no fewer than four major events: the Carnival, the Promenade végétale, the Fête des Cultures and the Fête de la Musique. The festive month ends with Fête de la Musique concerts. The atmosphere at the Argenteuil Festival is both festive and friendly and the many events taking place will appeal to the whole family, regardless of the age of your children.

Alternatib'Argenteuil and Festival Paris-Breizh

Every year in June, like in many cities in France, Argenteuil hosts a big festival: “Alternatiba.” The festival’s themes are zero waste challenge, consuming locally, alternative villages and there are discussions, conferences and workshops. It’s part of building a more sustainable society and a citizen movement about climate imbalance and living together. For Brittany enthusiasts, Argenteuil also hosts a Paris-Breizh Festival each year in September, where you’ll find a Breton market, fest-noz and many concerts!
